No Islamic government can be thought of without politics. Polity, by itself, is not bad. If politics vests with selfish people, corruption is the result. But, if politics are exercised by God fearing people, Iran is the result. Or more recently, the Hizbollah. We must participate in politics and purify it rather getting contaminated by it.

The religion of Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) provides lot of immunity against negative power politics. Nahjul Balagha and other such sources have inspired politicians who created societies based on justice and equality. The West didn't like this idea. They aggresively replaced Jutice with Human Rights. This explains why Western governments are more eager about material human freedom than the spiritual. In an effort to prove that the western political goals are universal and sublime, they toppled Saddam (which is material freedom) and made horrible mess out of Iraq as they could not create a stable government (which is the result of spiritual freedom). What all matters is our intention and sincerity towards our collective political goals for establishing justice and peace in the society.

Ironically, the West managed to make us believe that politics is bad of us. We are holy and, therefore, cannot participate in politics which is unholy. Subsquently, the Muslim world started producing stupid Holy-men where wise God-fearing leaders were required. Ayatullah Khomieni (r.a.) called such holy-men "Khare Muqaddas", translated as Holy Donkeys. Their sole purpose is to remain pure and holy rather than purifying a corrupt society. The same ideolgy lead to martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his honourable family because the holy-men, in the Islamic empire, didn't bother interfering politics. They believe politics belonged, exclusively, to the court. They allowed the Grandson of the Holy Prophet (s) to be killed and plundered right before them but made no political move to protest it. Both, our history and the current state of the world, do not offer choice in our political obligations.

If we are not politically active and do not voice for oppresion and unequality, we are allowing the Yazid of our times to operate with freedom and liberty. Since the values of Karbala are with Shias, the Yazid will plunder these from Shias and kill them too. On the record, Shias were killed during Iran-Iraq war by Bathist regime, in Pakistan by Sipah-e-Sahaba, in Afganistan by Taliban, in Lebanon by Israel, in Iraq by US-UK military occupation. It seems the children of Hussain and Islam are the target of the contemporary Yazid.

We are fully aware of what the world is making out of us. But we insist being holy and not political. We lament, complain and occasionally protest too. We blame the entire world being partial and unjust to us. How can such feeble and helpless people wish to join forces with Imam Mahdi (a), who will form global government to establish justice, equality and peace all over the world? Today, UNO is the face of global governance but failed miserably to do what it was meant for. For us being political means looking beyond the vision of UNO. Undisputably, we need to know about the world and its civilizations, issues and solutions, more than what UNO or any international agency does.

Politics will guard our prayers, fasting and Hajj. For instance, if Muslim women observe Hijab in France, it is crime and against French domestic laws. Such laws are created in parliaments by the legislation. Legislation is a purely political wing. We need God-fearing Muslim legislators to block such anti-Muslim laws. Muslim business investors in IT and Software are discouraged in India to enter competitive international markets through STPs. Everyone knows this. We need Muslim legislators to watch and influence such unjust practices.

If you read minorities report by Sachar commision you will be shocked to know the unequal distribution of SC/ST reserved constituencies candidates that hog upto 40% Muslim vote bank. A Muslim candidate is forced to compete with 2-15% vote bank in general constituencies. We need Muslim legislators to voice this and fight for our rights. Politics are the crux of the religion of Ahlul Bayt (a.s.). Global governance of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) will be the best political solution for all peoples.
